Jamnagar : ‘Madhuri’, the elephant who was once battling for survival due to a critical illness and severe leg injuries, has made a remarkable recovery at Reliance Foundation’s Vantara wildlife rescue and rehabilitation centre. After a year of intensive medical care and rehabilitation, she has regained both her physical and mental well-being and is now ready to return to her home in Kolhapur.
When Madhuri arrived at Vantara on July 30, 2025, her condition was extremely critical. She had suffered severe fractures in both legs, with extensive damage to her muscles, skin, and bones. Her injuries required immediate veterinary intervention and long-term specialized care.
Recognizing the seriousness of her condition, Vantara assembled a dedicated team of experts, including veterinarians, elephant specialists, biologists, nutritionists, animal welfare officers, and animal behavior experts. The multidisciplinary team developed a comprehensive and modern treatment plan tailored specifically to Madhuri’s needs.
Over the past year, Madhuri underwent numerous advanced medical and radiographic (X-ray) examinations. Recent test reports reveal that her previously fractured and weakened bones have completely healed and stabilized. The internal muscular damage has also recovered significantly. Madhuri is now able to bear her body weight comfortably, and her mobility has improved considerably.
According to the veterinary team, her health is currently stable, functional, and steadily improving.
Although Madhuri is now ready to return to Kolhapur following the successful completion of her year-long treatment, experts have emphasized the need for continued veterinary supervision. Given her history of severe bone injuries, she will require regular monitoring by local veterinarians, including periodic radiographic examinations, proper foot care, and a nutritious diet.
With ongoing care and attention, Madhuri is expected to remain healthy, active, and mobile for many years to come—marking an inspiring chapter in her extraordinary journey from pain and despair to recovery and renewal.
