Allegation That Patients Are Being Forced to Purchase Medicines Only from In-House Pharmacy at D. Y. Patil Hospital; Inquiry Demanded

Social Activist Mahadev Pawar Seeks Investigation, Calls for Protection of Patients’ Right to Choose Their Pharmacy

Navi Mumbai, June 16, 2026: Complaints have surfaced alleging that patients visiting D. Y. Patil Hospital in Nerul for treatment are being compelled to purchase medicines exclusively from the hospital’s in-house medical store. Social activist and Shiv Sena member Mahadev Pawar has termed these allegations serious, stating that patients have the right to buy prescribed medicines from any licensed pharmacy of their choice.

Pawar has submitted a written representation to the hospital administration demanding an immediate inquiry into the matter. He stated that forcing patients to obtain medicines from a particular pharmacy is inappropriate and undermines the fundamental right of patients to choose where they purchase their medications.

According to the complaint, patients and their relatives have raised concerns that they are being directed to buy medicines only from the hospital’s medical store, despite the availability of licensed pharmacies elsewhere. If found to be true, such practices could place an unnecessary financial burden on patients and restrict their freedom of choice.

Pawar has urged the hospital administration to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation into the allegations and take appropriate action against any individuals found responsible. He further emphasized that patients should be free to purchase medicines from any authorized pharmacy without facing pressure or restrictions from healthcare institutions.

The representation also calls upon the hospital administration to ensure transparency in its pharmacy-related practices and safeguard the rights of patients, thereby maintaining trust in the healthcare system.
