Navi Mumbai: Social activist Mahadev Pawar has demanded that the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) install protective metal roofing sheds over all open gyms located in parks and public spaces across the city.
While the civic body is currently undertaking projects to provide roofing over public benches in several locations, open gyms continue to remain completely exposed to the elements. As a result, citizens are unable to use these facilities during the monsoon season, causing significant inconvenience to women, senior citizens, and regular fitness enthusiasts.
Pawar pointed out that continuous exposure to rain and harsh sunlight is also causing the iron equipment installed in these open gyms to rust and deteriorate, leading to damage to public property and increased maintenance costs.
He emphasized that installing sturdy roofing sheds over all open gyms would not only enable citizens to exercise comfortably throughout the year but would also help protect the equipment from weather-related damage, thereby extending its lifespan.
Mahadev Pawar has urged the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation to take an immediate decision and initiate the process of installing protective sheds over all open gym facilities across the city.
